About you

You Are Loved. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17 NKJV) We invite you to join us to learn more about God’s great love for you.

About Us

We Are Loved. We are a multicultural, multi-generational group of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ with an emphasis on knowing, loving and serving God and our fellow man. For the Bible says, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8 NKJV)

About God

As God has given us His Word (the Bible), His Son (the Lord Jesus Christ), His Spirit (of Truth, Love and Power) we believe it is vital to know God and to make Him known to the world. The Bible says, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Mat 28:18 NKJV)

We are a fellowship of believers joined together to celebrate, serve, and share Jesus as Lord, Savior, and Redeemer of all sinners.  In Him alone, we have life!

What we Believe

We believe that The Bible is God’s Word, revealed to man so that we may know and be reconciled to Him.

The Bible teaches that we are reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ, God’s perfect Son, who paid the price for all of man’s sins on Calvary’s Cross. By accepting Jesus as our personal Savior and turning from sin, we receive God’s grace: the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.

Our core beliefs are based on The Bible, which teaches that:

  • There is one eternal God who created and rules the universe and exists in the Persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to live a sinless life and offer Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. He rose on the third day after His death and burial to demonstrate His victory over sin and then returned to the right hand of God. He will return again at the end of the age to judge the world and usher in an eternity of peace and joy for all who put their faith in Him.
  • All people are sinners, separated from God and in need of God’s forgiveness. We are forgiven and receive God’s grace when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Our view of who Jesus is determines where we will spend eternity — with God in paradise (Heaven), or eternally separated from the love of God (Hell) — because of our sin.
  • The Holy Spirit begins to live in believers when they accept Jesus and helps them to carry out God’s Work and become the people God created them to be.
  • The 66 books of The Bible represent God’s complete and inerrant Word to man, each book being inspired and guided by God, who chose men of faith to record His Truth.
  • Baptism by immersion, while not required for salvation, is a visible, outward sign of faith commanded by Jesus to identify us with His death, burial and resurrection.
  • The Lord’s Supper is commanded by God to remind us of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, with the bread symbolizing His broken body and the cup symbolizing His blood shed on the Cross.

Who We Are

We strive to honor God by reaching people with His truth and His love. Reaching people means leading others to God’s gift of eternal life, which is available to all people through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible tells us that Jesus took the sins of the world upon Himself so that we, God’s lost children, could know and be reconciled with our perfect and loving Creator.

As we share God’s Word, we want to help people know God, know His plan for their lives and enable them to share their faith with others. We believe that faith leads to a growing relationship with God, who fills an emptiness in us that can be filled by nothing else. As we grow in this relationship, we become more aware of God’s love, His holiness and His will. Knowing God compels us to share our faith so that others may be forgiven of their sins and have the gift of eternal life.

Here are just few ways that God is honored in our church and a sampling of how we share our faith as His church:

  • We are glad to have a fun AWANA (2 Timothy 2:15 – Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) program at our church. Awana helps churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ.  To find out more:
  • We support Carenet RI, a pro-life pregnancy resource center (as well as Christian missionaries).
To find out more about Carenet:
  • We care about those who serve in the military overseas (and in this country) and each year our church takes a special collection for Military Biblesticks.  To find out more about this outreach:
  • NEW – a group of Christian men meet at the church regularly once a month now.  See Steve for details.  (He also can tell you about the local and foreign missionaries we support as well.)

What can I expect?

Our church is home to a diverse group of believers all united by our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

If you are searching for a church, you will find First Baptist Church in East Providence a warm welcoming place that combines practical insightful Bible-based teaching with heartfelt prayer and a joyful mix of traditional hymns/contemporary praise songs.

You matter to God and to us.  We are interested in you: where you are going and where you will spend eternity. Going in the right direction begins with God. Knowing God leads to inner peace and fulfillment especially as you grow your relationship with Him.  As believers, we seek to carry out God’s will for our lives.

The Holy Bible is read/preached line-by-line at each service.

We use the New King James Bible translation which is available in each pew.  You are welcome to bring your own Bible if you like.

Electronic devices (phones, tablets, beepers) can be turned to vibrate, silent or mute throughout the service.  Sermon audio is recorded live at each service and subsequently posted on our sermon page.

First Baptist Church in East Providence was established in 1794 for the purpose of worshiping God and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In its early years, the church had some variations on the current name because the land on which the church sits was part of Rehoboth and later part of Seekonk. The name was changed to First Baptist Church in East Providence in 1862, when the state line moved, causing the western part of Seekonk, Mass., to become part of East Providence, R.I.

It is believed that the church’s first meeting house was built in 1795 and 1796. The structure was torn down in 1879, making way for the present building, which cost $7,000 and was dedicated on Dec. 30, 1879.

Throughout its history, the church has honored God by helping people grow in their faith and service to Him. Pastor Ernest Robillard came to us in 1999, providing enthusiasm for God, His Word and the need to boldly share the good news of the Gospel with all who will hear.

Recently the church bell/bell tower was refurbished and major renovations were made inside the sanctuary as well.  A brand new baptism fount has also been added.

Adult Sunday School

We meet in the Bible Study Classroom from 9-9:45 am. Our teacher John Nelson is leading us in an interactive and informative study of the Book of Genesis.

Fellowship Time

We have this time of meeting and greeting from 9:45-10 am. in our Fellowship Hall. Refreshments (coffee, juice and pastries) are provided at no cost by the church.

Sunday Worship

Our worship service begins at 10 am and usually ends around 11:30- 11:45 am. Under the direction of our Worship Leader Cal Blaser and our organist Elaine Blaser we sing a combination of hymns and praise songs. Pastor Ernie Robillard preaches expository sermons that explain the content of the passage in the context it was written while offering real life applications for us today. We do offer Nursery and Children’s Church for the families with younger children while occasionally having everyone stay in the sanctuary for family worship.

Tuesday Bible Study

The Tuesday night meeting (held from 6-7:30 pm in our Fellowship Hall) provides a dynamic opportunity for fellowship as we briefly worship, study God’s Word (celebrating His Work in our lives) and join in prayer for the needs of our church, extended families and community.

Friday Evening Children’s Program

Men’s Ministries

Under the leadership of Steve Corriera, the men of the church are meeting for mutual edification and encouragement on a regular basis. They are presently beginning a video series entitled “Stepping Up.” Based on his book Stepping Up, Dennis Rainey, along with Matt Chandler, Bill Bennett, Robert Lewis, Voddie Baucham, Stu Weber, and others unpack what biblical manhood looks like and what it means to be a godly, courageous man in today’s world. Through engaging stories, expert teaching, humorous vignettes, man-on-the-street interviews, and personal insights, these men’s ministry leaders call every man to become courageous leaders in their own lives, marriages, churches, and communities. Designed for 10 sessions of about 90 minutes each, video sessions average 25 to 35 minutes. For more information please contact Steve Corriera by phone at (401) 473.6292 or by email at

Women’s Ministries

Along with having regular times of fellowship, hosting and attending women’s conferences and involvement in various service projects locally and internationally, the women of the church are participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) with women from area churches.
